Upgrade: SSL Certificate purchased and installed

SOAR has purchased and installed certified SSL certificates for the *.mypack.us and *.mytroop.us domains. The mygirlscout.us domain will be added after our hosting migration, due to a configuration issue.

What does this mean????

Members access your website by typing a web address such as http://<city><unit #>.<service>.us into their web browser (i.e. Internet Explorer). As an example – http://penfield9.mytroop.us or http://thewoodlands772.mypack.us

Members can also access your website via secure HTTP, also called SSL, by using “https” instead of “http”. i.e. https://thewoodlands772.mypack.us. When using this method, all communication between a member’s computer and your unit website is encrypted. Previously, this method would display a warning message to members that your website was not “certified” prior to allowing access to the website. With the purchase of SSL certificates, the warning message will no longer appear and members will see a lock icon (see image below) indicating that the site is certified and secure – just like when you purchase something over the internet.

Upgrade: Image support in Rich Text Editor

Support for adding images into Events and Custom Pages (including About Us and the Welcome Message) has been added to the Rich Text Editor. You will note a new button at the end of the first row of buttons.

Through this button you can display an image that is contained on your website (or anywhere on the Internet) and control how it displays. We recommend that you create a File Folder named something like “Website Graphics” and place all images for your website in this folder. You can then determine the website address (URL) of this image by copying it from the address bar of Internet Explorer while viewing it.

Bug Fix - Risizing of Text Editor multi-line fields

When using the Text Editor, multi-line fields should be resizable – meaning you can click on the lower left of the field’s box and drag it down, making the field larger for data entry.

This was working properly for Announcements. It is now working properly for Custom Pages and Events.

Recurring Events

You can easily create a series of events with the Recurring Event features.

This feature supports two recurrance patterns:

  • Every Week - create the same event for the selected date for every week between the start and end date.
  • Every Month - create the same event each month on each day of the month between the start and end date. You can select which day and week of the month you'd like to schedule the event.

All events created will have the same title, time, location, and details.

This function will then create an individual calender item for each event in the series.

Date Selection Utility

When creating events you need to select dates that the event starts and stops on. To facilitate easy selection of dates, a popup Date Selection Utility is provided using the icon .

Note: The use of this utility requires that your browser have Javascript enabled. If you are not seeing the image below when clicking on the icon your browser is blocking it.

This new utility replaces the previous popup utility which required a new window to be opened and the new utility provides a number of additional features.

This utility is compatible with Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Safari web browsers.

  1. Close the Date Selection popup
  2. Single Click - go back 1 year

Default Calendar View

You can define which Calendar View displays when members click on the Calendar menu item under the Main Menu on the top left of all pages.

  • Month View - display a standard calendar month
  • List View - display a table of upcoming events in event order

For the List View you can also define the default number of months to show.

You can set the Calendar defaults using Administration/Control Panel/Features.

Exporting Data Files

You will need to export two seperate files from TroopMaster to import into your Unit website. The first one contains Scout data and the second one contains Adult Leader data.

Use the following process to export and save each file.

  1. Open TroopMaster.
  2. Click File/Export/ASCII Delimited.
  3. Click "Include field names as first line of export".
  4. Select the "Comma Delimited" Format.
  5. Select Area "Scout Data" the first time through the process, "Adult Data" the second time.
  6. Select the date format "MM/DD/YYYY".
  7. Click the "Add All" button.
  8. Click the "Export" button.

Data Guidelines

Here are some guidelines for data that resides in your TroopMaster database.

Scouts & Adults

  • All names (scout, parent, and adult) must be unique. Use middle initials and suffixes if necessary to make sure all names are unique. Note: some versions of TroopMaster do not export middle initials/suffixes for Adults - use middle initial and suffixes in the Scout record.
  • The UserID will be automatically generated as <first name><1st letter middle><last name><suffix>.
  • Do not use co-leaders for patrols. Pick one as primary and one as assistant.

Importing Members

There are multiple ways in which you can add members and roster information to your website.

  • Manual - You can add members manually through the Add Member function under Administration/Members/Unit Members. For this method you will have to add a member for each scout, parent, and then associate children and their parents manually.

  • User Registration (aka "Join") - You can have members enter their own information as they create their accounts. For Packs, you will most likely have to add scout accounts manually and associate children with parents.

Roster Check

The Roster Check feature will run a number of tests against the existing Member/Roster information to provide you feedback on any potential missing areas of your Roster.

This is a very useful feature to run after you believe you have imported/entered all your unit members and made parent, scout, leader, and Den/Patrol associations.
